J&C Politics: Supreme Court Draft was leaked to the press, Draft is about overturning Woe V. Wade.☕☕☕

Ayyyeee… What’s Goodie Everyone. So I got some tea and it involves the United States Supreme Court and a document that could change the country.

The supreme court draft opinion which was written by Justice Samuel Alito Jr., was obtained by Politico Monday night in a highly leak from the nation’s highest court, elevating to the forefront a health care issue that has long divided the country. The decision, which is not expected to be finalized for another month or more and could change in its final form, would shift the decision of abortion’s legality to individual states.

The disclosure of the opinion to Politico, was unprecedented in such a major case and threw the Supreme Court into turmoil as it faced a head-spinning breach of its traditional secrecy. The court has largely been immune to the sort of leaks that have been common in other major institutions, but amid calls for an investigation, justices, clerks and other close to the court may find a new atmosphere of suspicion amid speculation about who was to blame and what their motivation was.

Democrats rushed to express outrage at news of the potential decision, while Republicans condemned the leak as an effort to intimidate conservative justices as they appeared set to unravel an established set of jurisprudence.

The morning after the disclosure of the opinion, protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court and could be heard across the street as members of Congress entered the Capitol. At the White House, President Joe Biden called on voters to elect more abortion rights supporters to Congress so that lawmakers can codify the principles of Roe into federal law even if the justices reverse the decision.

In a denunciation of the Supreme Court on the Senate floor, New York Senator Chuck Schumer who is the majority leader, accused the conservative justices of lying to the Senate, ripping up the Constitution and defiling “both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation.”

In a statement with House Republican leaders, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California who is the House minority leader, focused on the leak more than the decision. He called it “a clearly coordinated campaign to intimidate and obstruct the justices of the United States Supreme Court.”
